Hillcrest Camera Club - Meeting - 1st April 2014

Posted by Hillcrest Camera Club on Sunday, April 13, 2014 Under: Meetings

Hi everyone

We have an exciting speaker presenting at the meeting this Tuesday!

1. Speaker - Matthew Willman

Matthew Willman spoke at our club a few years ago. His passion for photography was strongly evident then, as was his passion about his interaction with Nelson Mandela. Matthew has produced a book, "We Called Him Madiba". He will be speaking to us about his book, and his relationship with Madiba.  It is sure to be poignant and inspiring, and should show us the impact others can have on our lives.

Matthew will be selling his books @ R300. Although Matthew has a mobile credit card machine, and can accept credit card payments, bring cash if you wish to purchase his book.

2. Set Subject - Book or Movie Title

There are many ways to interpret this set subject. This is a creative interpretation.

  • literally - a direct interpretation of the title eg. Fifty Shades of Grey could be a photo of shades of grey.
  • figuratively - an interpretation of the themes of the story. eg. Love Story - depicts the themes of love and relationships, or of loss and death. Make up scenes that show this, and shoot them. Use models, or use props.
  • Recreate the iconic scenes from the movie, using models.
  • copy the movie poster, or book cover
  • make up your own book cover or movie poster

3. Reminder for the Canon Roadshow - Saturday 5th April 2014, 10am - 1pm

  • Roger Machin (DSLR and Video PM), Abri Kriegler (Digital Camera & Digital Video PM) and Lee-Anne Letcher (Printer and Scanner PM) will be giving presentations on their specialist fields.
  • Andrew Aveley - Creating Photography - will be sharing his passion and taking us through a selection of images. He will be sharing many useful tips and tricks for shooting and post-production.
  • Andrew Beck - Connect and Grow - will be discussing the effects of social media channels and apps on the photographic community. He will be sharing lessons from his own personal journey.

See you at the meeting at 7pm, 1st April 2014.
