Hillcrest Camera Club - Meeting - 6 May 2014

Posted by Hillcrest Camera Club on Thursday, May 29, 2014 Under: Meetings

Hi everyone

We have an exciting month ahead of us. We will be hearing from club members who inspires them. There is the Clarens Autumn Weekend Away this weekend. And the set subject is a challenging technical subject - long exposure.

1. Meeting - "Who Inspires You"

Following on from the inspirational talk given by Matthew Willman last month, we continue with an exploration into which photographers motivate, inspire and provide enjoyment to members of the club.

Part of the journey we all take in our growth as photographers is to be exposed to other people's work. Seeing why and what motivated others to take the photos they took keeps us challenged and inspired. Simple appreciation of beautiful work is also important for growth.

We will be hearing about Sally Mann, Gueorgui Pinkhassov, Arno Minkinnen and William Eggleston.

2. Clarens Weekend Away
Fri, Sat Sun, Mon - 9,10,11,12 May 2014

Weather - it is expected to be clear and sunny, and COLD!! Zero degrees at night! Be prepared for the night shoots, with gloves, beanies, scarves, jackets, socks etc.

Carl Smorenburg's course - we will advise closer to the time, or at Kiara Lodge, what the arrangements are for his course. Right now it looks like there will be a theory talk on Saturday after lunch, and a practical on Sunday morning. In between you can shoot whenever and whatever you want!

3. Set Subject - Long Exposure

This is a technical set subject. You are free to shoot any subject, but show that you have grasped the technical method of shooting a long exposure, as well as understand the different types of results that can be achieved:

  • Some images show motion, or movement not visible to the eye.

  • Some long exposure shots show the stillness of objects.

  • Colour variations

Investigate and Google the different types of images that can be achieved. Put forward your best photo!

4. Outing - Botanical Gardens, Durban

When: Sat 24th May
Time: Late afternoon
Where: Botanical Gardens, Durban
This is a chance to photograph all that the gardens have to offer - plants, flowers, trees, people. We will probably have a picnic lunch first, then shoot, to take advantage of the soft afternoon light.

See you at 7pm Tuesday 6th May 2014.
