Hillcrest Camera Club - Photo Sharing - Tues 19 March 2013

Hi everyone

It is time for our photo sharing evening again and it is going to be an interesting one.

1. Photo Sharing

We are introducing a new section to submit photos for called Creativity. Vanessa did a great introduction to what this section is all about, but here is a quick recap. In our current sections we allow for minor adjustments to be made to your photos, but digital photography allows us to take our creativity to new heights, for which we created a new category. We can now do overlays, selective colouring, cloning, RAW conversions, HDR, advanced B/W conversions and many other fantastic things to create beautiful and unique photos, but you still need the basis of a good photograph to start with. So get creative with your editing, and please submit your photos in the Creativity section. Show us your work!

Unedited.                                        Edits - Camera Raw & PSE9.
Overexposed. Removed background. Upped saturation, contrast and clarity.

Unedited                                                     Edits - PSE9 & Photoscape. B&W, selective colour -                                                                    poster edges - vignetting - cross process filter.

Unedited                                                  Edited - Photoscape. Contrast, saturation, vignetting.
Added a swirl to give the effect.

  • Please make the subject line of email submissions "March photo submissions". This will make it easier for Andre to identify the emails and ensure that your photos will be added.

Please note: If your photo is incorrectly labelled, or named, and there is no subject line for the email, or it is sent after the deadline it will not be shown.
If you miss the deadline for emailing, you can submit photos at the meeting on a virus free memory stick. However, please be considerate and come early. Out of consideration to those who have submitted timely, we will no longer be accepting submissions after 7PM, once the meeting begins.

2. Set Subject: Motion

Motion is a fun subject for this month and we are sure you will agree when you start playing around with ideas. Motion implies movement in your photograph where you will usually have something static and something and something blurred as it moves through the frame. Take for instance a dancer moving around on the dance floor, a car whizzing past in an off road race or the waves moving amongst rocks on a beach.

The most important thing to remember is to use a slow shutter speed. If you photograph an athlete running past you and you use a fast shutter speed to freeze his movement, it will look like he is standing still. If you use a slow shutter speed, his arms and legs will blur which emphasizes his movement as he is running. You can use this concept with anything that moves.

So go out and have fun!!!

3. Outing: Festival of Chariots

Please note that we have had a change in the Outing. The dates for the Festival of Chariots have been released and will fall in March, so we have postponed the Paradise Valley outing to April. The Festival of Chariots is a great and colourful event where you can capture some great photos. It is well worth it to photograph.

More details to follow in the next notice.
