Deadlines, deadlines, deadlines!

  • Submit your 'winning' photo to the World Wide Photo Walk website by Monday 14th Oct, 6PM, South African time.

  • Submit your prints and digital images for the club exhibition by Tuesday 15th Oct.

  • RSVP to hillcrestcameraclub@gmail.co.za for the Ammazulu Boutique Hotel outing this Sat 19th Oct. See notice for info.

1. Photo Sharing

Here is what you need to submit:
1. Open
2. Outing (Emmanuel Cathedral)
3. Set Subject (Macro Photography)
4. Creativity*
5. Troubleshooting
*If possible, please submit 'Before' and 'After' photos of your creative submission. This will help illustrate what editing or processing you have done.

How to submit your photos:

  • Please submit your photos by email to: hillcrestcameraclub@gmail.com or bring 8x10 prints.

  • Email submission closes 12pm (midday) Tues 15 Oct 2013.

  • You can submit four photos for either/or Set Subject, Outing, Open or Creativity categories. You may submit only ONE for Set Subject. You may submit one extra in Troubleshooting if you need some help from the club.

  • Size - Minimum of 1024 x 768 pixels, and not more than 600KB per photo. Please do not exceed this size limit!!!!

  • Format - Jpeg or Tiff

  • File names - the file name of each photo must follow this format: Category - Your Name & Surname - Title of Photo. In addition, please state your camera settings - Aperture, Shutter Speed, Exposure Compensation, ISO, in the title. For the Creative Category, please state what edits you did, eg. Photoshop Elements 10, Vignetting, added Overlay, saturated colour.

  • e.g. Outing - Luca Tabarrini - Venezia - f11, 15sec, -1EV, ISO100.

  • You can write all of this in the file title, it allows for a long title!!!

  • Please make the subject line of email submissions "Oct photo submissions".

Please note: If your photo is incorrectly labelled, or named, and there is no subject line for the email, or it is sent after the deadline it will not be shown.
If you miss the deadline for emailing, you can submit photos at the meeting on a virus free memory stick. However, please be considerate and come early, by 6.30pm. Out of consideration to those who have submitted timely, we will no longer be accepting submissions after 7PM, once the meeting begins.



2. Hillcrest Camera Club Member's Exhibition 2013

We are very happy to announce that the date and venue for our Annual Hillcrest Camera Club Member's Exhibition have been finalised. All of our members are given a chance to put their best work on display and to promote the club to the general public. The previous exhibitions have been a huge success, so invite all of your friends and family to come and see what your passion for photography is all about.

You have to submit your mounted prints and digital images at our next meeting, because we need to know how many prints to cater for. Mike Volckman has kindly agree to put together slide shows for us and will need some time to put them together. All club members are welcome to exhibit their work and we encourage everyone to have at least one mounted print up for display.

Instructions:

Printed photos must be A4 (8"x10") or larger and they must be mounted. For those that need to have mounts made, contact Harry Lock on 082 576 0199 as soon as possible. He will need some time to make the mounts, so please don't delay. The usual mounts are 30 X 40 cm in size and are designed to take a 20 X 30 cm prints (A4). They cost R25.00 each. They are white or black and come with a backing board. Also speak to him regarding other sizes.

Digital photos must be saved onto CD/DVD to their maximum size and resolution (dimensions). They can be saved as JPEGs or TIFFs. Please make sure you don't have small or low quality images, because they won't look good when displayed on a large screen. The files should be larger than 3MB each.

Photos must have been taken after the previous exhibition. New members must also please submit their work. We love seeing what you have done and it is a great way to see how you have improved when you submit for next year's exhibition!

3. Worldwide Photo Walk 

Submit your 'winning' photo by the deadline - 6PM, South African time.
If you have any problems, contact Yvonne or Vanessa. It is a simple uploading process, though.

Q. How do we submit our best photo to the contest?
A. Log into your account at WorldwidePhotoWalk.com and go to your walk page.
You’ll see a box where you can upload your best photo.
The suggested dimensions are 1000px on the longest side at 72dpi, and the maximum file size is 1MB. 
Once your image has uploaded, you’ll see it on screen and be able to confirm that you’ve uploaded the correct image.
If you change your mind and want to submit a different image, you will have until the cutoff date (October 14 at 12:00 noon ET) to upload a new image. After that, no changes can be made.
