2. Outing: Rocky Bay  Sun 25 Aug 2013

We are going to Rocky Bay on Sunday and it promises to be a spectacular day.

What Rocky Bay has to offer:

  • The low tide will expose all of the rocks and rock pools in front and to the right of the parking area. They can be used as foreground interest and also to reflect the sunrise.
  • To the left is a pier that overlooks the sea where fishermen stand and fish. You can create beautiful silhouettes with the rising sun as backlight.
  • The boats also launch next to the pier. You can capture movement and the interactions between people.
  • Further left is the river mouth that creates a beautiful lagoon. You can get great reflections in the still water.
  • The train bridge has beautiful arches and is built over the lagoon. You can even go onto the bridge to photograph the trains going over. Just exercise caution when you are next to the tracks.

What to bring:

  • Tripod, fully charged batteries and empty memory cards.
  • It will be dark so remember to bring a torch.
  • A cloth to clean the sea spray from your lens. Clean it regularly!!
  • A plastic bag to cover your camera if it starts to rain.
  • It looks like it will be a cold morning so warm clothes are a must.
  • Coffee and rusks will keep the morning chill at bay!

We will have a breakfast picnic in Scottburgh after the shoot. Bring a picnic breakfast, or a skottle, for the breakfast. We will picnic on the grass banks

Date: Sunday, 25 Aug 2013
Time: 5:30am
Place: Meet on the right hand side of the parking. Will make it easier to find each other in the dark.

This is the first time that the World Championships will be held in Pmb. The action should be incredible to capture, as mountain biking is one of the most extreme sports requiring agility and speed. Well worth going to support, and to take action photos.
