Notice for Club Meeting - Tuesday, 05 February 2013

Posted by Hillcrest Camera Club on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 Under: Meetings

Hi everyone

We would like to thank everyone that submitted photos at the last meeting. It is great to see everyone participating and getting excited about their photography. Let's keep up the momentum and make the club evenings great!

1. Speaker - Carl Smorenberg

Carl Smorenburg is a landscape photographer based in Kloof and he has been capturing spectacular images for many years. He combines good photography with the different tools available in Photoshop and takes his images to new heights. He gladly agreed to come and speak to us again and will showcase his work. You can't afford to miss this evening!

2. Set Subject - Landscape/Seascape/Sunrise/Sunset using Triptych

This is an interesting Set Subject that will make you look deeper into one of the more straight forward types of photography. Firstly, let's look at what a triptych is. A photographic triptych is a common style used in modern commercial artwork. The photographs usually arranged with a plain border between them. The work may consist of separate images that are variants on a theme, or may be one larger image split into three. For example, a dancer in three different poses, or a car photographed from three different angles.

This month you have to apply this technique to a Landscape, a Seascape, a Sunrise or a Sunset to create a single artwork from your three photos. Below are a few examples.

We will send you a guide to create these in Photoshop, but there are a lot of websites that will explain the process with whatever software you use. Don't forget that you can always print your photos and mount them. It is always a joy to see your photos in print.

Take your time and think about what you want to achieve. And most of all have fun!!!

3. Beginner's Outing - ISO

We will have our next Beginner's Outing on Saturday, 09 February and it is aimed at the beginners in our club. Members will guide the beginners on how to use their cameras in real-world situations. Notes will be handed out that the beginners can use to recap what they have learned.

This month we will cover 'ISO'.

We will give everyone more details later this week.

4. Outing - Wilson's Wharf

Our outing this month will be to Wilson's Wharf, where you will be able to photograph the docks, the ships, the yachts and the surrounding area. It will be a beautiful shoot!

More details to follow...

7. 1000 Hills Tourism Association - Help needed

We received the following request:
"I am wondering if your club members (Hillcrest Camera Club) would be interested in helping the 1000 Hills Tourism Association in the marketing of the 1000 Hills area. We are busy rebuilding our website and our looking for photographs to include that are of the area or feature the area in some way. We are an NGO so there is unfortunately no remuneration but we would be more than happy to publicize the photographers name and details.

The 1000 Hills Tourism Association is responsible for marketing and promoting tourism (local and international) for the 1000 Hills area, which starts at the top of Fields Hill (Kloof) and ends in about Ichanga, so includes Hillcrest, Everton, Waterfall and other areas."

8. A Request from member Diana Patoir, St Agnes Church

"Hi – I am one of your members and I work at St Agnes Church, Kloof. We are running a Summer School in early March, it will be our third one – they have proven to be quite popular. We are looking for someone to take our Photography class, can you recommend anyone?
It will be on 3 Weds 6th, 13th & 20th March from 6 – 7 pm. We will be charging R100 per person for the 3 lessons and the tutor will get R90 per person. We are not in for the money! It’s a form of outreach for us.
If you can help, I would appreciate it.
Many thanks
