Notice for Club Meeting - Tuesday 17 July 2012

Posted by Hillcrest Camera Club on Monday, July 16, 2012 Under: Meetings

Hi everyone

It is time to share our photos again. Please email your photos early and only bring them to the club on a memory stick if you are really unable to email them. The large amount of submissions before the meeting is delaying the start of the meetings. Also use the naming convention as stated below to make it easier to put the photos in the correct categories. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

The tripod and point-and-shoot case that were left at the club have still not been claimed. If they belong to you, you can email us at or collect them at the Tuesday meeting.

Don't forget that the Set Subject has changed!! Read on for more details...

1. Fire Dancing Workshop photos

The fire Dancer, Justine, has asked if we could please put our best photos from the workshop onto a cd for him. Fire Dancing is very hard work and he went on much longer than he normally would have. So please show your appreciation and send us your photos.

You may submit your 2 best photos for the meeting on Tuesday. If you have more photos that you would like to give Justine, then please email them to us separately or bring them to the meeting on a memory stick.

2. Photo Sharing

Here is what you need to submit:
1. Open
2. Outing (Summerveld)
3. Set Subject (Black & White)
4. Troubleshooting
5. Workshop (Fire Dancer) only 2 photos per person for the meeting

Please submit your photos by email to:, or bring prints no smaller than 8"x10".
Email submission closes 8pm on Monday, 16 July 2012.
You can submit photos for either/or Open, Set Subject and Outing categories. Please only submit 3 photos in total. You may submit only 1 extra photo in the Troubleshooting section and 2 photos for the Fire Dancing Workshop.
Size - Maximum of 1024 x 768 pixels, and not more than 600KB per photo. Please do not exceed this limit!!!!
Format - Jpeg or Tiff
Labelling - the filename of each photo must follow this format: Your Name & Surname - Category - Title of Photo e.g. Shelby Lee Adams - Set Subject - Girls in onion patch.
Please make the subject line of the email "July 2012 photo submissions". This will make it easier to identify the emails and ensure that your photos will be added.
Please note: If your photo is incorrectly labelled, or named, and there is no subject line for the email, or it is sent after the deadline it will not be shown.

If you miss the deadline for emailing, you can submit photos at the meeting on a virus free memory stick. However, please be considerate and come early. Out of consideration to those who have submitted timeously, we will no longer be accepting submissions after 7PM, once the meeting begins.

3. Set Subject: Black & White

Please note !! In favour of doing an action and panning workshop next month, we changed the Set Subject to Black and White.  B/W photos are more of an artistic view of the world. By removing the distraction of colour you are only left with shapes, textures and composition. This creates a more emotive image, because the viewer now sees more of the details in the photos.

Portraits work especially well, because the emphasis is on the expression of the model.

Have fun and we will see what you have created on Tuesday!!

4. Beginner's Outing

The rugby is over and we will continue with our Beginner's Outings again. More details to follow...

5. Outing for July: Rocky Bay and Scottburgh Car Show

Our outing will be a sunrise shoot at Rocky Bay on Sunday, the 29th of June. It is one of our best sunrise locations and not to be missed. We will also be close to Scottburgh so once we have finished at Rocky Bay we can attend the car show in Scottburgh to complete a full day of photographic fun!

More details to follow...

6. Reminder to BOOK and PAY for the Baynesfield Weekend Away
