HILLCREST CAMERA CLUB

Founded in 2006, Hillcrest Camera Club will be celebrating our 20th anniversary in 2026! Our club is based in central Hillcrest, KZN, South Africa. We support all skill levels, sharing knowledge and skills in an enjoyable and relaxed club atmosphere.

Hillcrest Camera Club has been proudly affiliated with the Photographic Society of South Africa since November 2020.

OUR MISSION STATEMENT

Our vision is to bring together people who share a passion for photography, from the novice to the more experienced in a relaxed and enjoyable setting. We aim to foster, nurture and support each other through our mutual interest in photography by sharing our work, interest and dedication.

SPEAKERS / WORKSHOPS

The above notice is an example of one of our speakers in August 2025, landscape photographer Kyle Goetsch.

On the first Tuesday of every month, we invite a guest speaker to present a talk to our club members. Our speakers are often professional photographers who talk about their work, editing techniques, useful tips and share their images on our overhead projector screen.

PHOTO SHARE

On the third Tuesday of every month, we hold our photo share evening where an invited guest judge will critique our images (submitted to Photo Vault) in person or via a live zoom meeting (held at the club). Our images are given a score by the external judge which is converted into an award automatically on photo vault (our club uses the 'sliding scale').

Points and awards are tallied up towards advancement within the club, starting at the entry level of one star and moving upwards.

OUTINGS

Around the third weekend of every month (either a Saturday or Sunday) our club will arrange an outing to various places of interest in and around Hillcrest or further afield. We like to encourage our members to attend these outings to learn from the skilled photographers in our club and build up a portfolio of images to submit to monthly photo share evenings or to various national salons.
